      Thomas Purifye, 1652-55, Lancaster Co., Vir.

      Paul and Kathy Gause states on their website that:
      1. Thomas was the sixth son of Humphrie and Alice.
      2. Died at his 1,000 acre estate "Drayton."
      3. Came to America when he was 43 years of age.
      4. He was named as one of the early Virginia Pioneers from the 1624 recor
      ds in Capt. John Smith's first English Colony at Jamestown.
      5. In 1652 he was a member of the council.
      6. He was commissioner of Elizabeth City County in 1626.
      7. He was Burgess of the lower part of Elizabeth City County from 1629-16
      30.
      8. He was principle commander of Elizabeth City County in 1629
      9. He was a member of the King's Council in 1631.
      10. In 1635, the mutiny in Virginia was reported by Capt. Purifoy.

      Land Office Patents & Grants:

      Sept. 20, 1628: Bought 100 acres in Elizabeth City. Within the precin
      ct of Elizabeth City, from the fields called Fort Henry.

      April 18, 1635: County location unknown, 200 acres. Part of the land beg
      innine south from the Pocoson River at a point called by the name Willough
      by Point.

      May 10, 1631: County location unknown, 500 acres. Upon a point called Cr
      oss quarter.

      November 28, 1635: Elizabeth City County, 100 acres. Northwest upon a cr
      eek next upon the fort field and northwest upon John Neals land.

      Edna Mae Selden in her book "Selden and Kindred of Virginia" states that t
      he Purefoy family was from Leicestershire, England.
